While one of the great highlights of Carolyn’s time with us was the trip to Lake Nakuru, some of our best game-viewing experiences came from the comfort of our yard. For the past week, a herd of zebra and gazelles has taken up residence behind our house. Each evening, before the girls went to bed, we’d go into the yard and watch the zebras frolic and the gazelles graze.
An additional joy was a new visitor who came Carolyn’s last day in Najile. For the first time, we saw 6 giraffes eating acacia branches behind our house thursday morning. We quickly got shoes on and ran out of the compound to get a closer look. The giraffes allowed us to get within about 20m where we took pictures and simply marveled at the beauty of what God has created. We all agreed that giraffes are simply elegant creatures. They walk with an ease and grace which you don’t always find in animals and their size is simply awesome. 
So, if you want to take a budget-rate safari and don’t mind crying babies, take a visit to the Kistler lodge the next time you’re in Kenya.
